Do you want a pretty garden in Heartopia, with flowers of all colours? To do that, you need to unlock crossbreeding. This feature allows you to cross-breed flowers and obtain new colours. In this guide, I'll show you how to unlock crossbreeding in Heartopia and flower combinations.
Crossbreeding in Heartopia is not available from the start of the game. To do so, you'll need to meet a few prerequisites.
1. Reach gardening level 3
Crossbreeding is unlocked at gardening level 3. To reach this level quickly, buy all the vegetable seeds available from Blanc, unlock all the available home plots and grow as many as you can. In this way, you'll increase your level gauge.
As soon as you reach level 3, crossbreeding in Heartopia will be available. Go back to Blanc: the flower seeds will then be unlocked. Once again, buy as many seeds as you can. At gardening level 3, you'll only have access to red and white daisies. On level 4, you'll unlock red and yellow pansies.
⚡ Good to know: gardening in Heartopia is a marathon, not a sprint. But to save time, I suggest you plant the fast-growing seeds (tomatoes) while you're online, to harvest them quickly. Before you disconnect from the game, plant the slow-growing seeds (the potatoes). You'll be able to harvest them the next time you log on.
One final note about flowers in Heartopia: you don 't need a planter to plant your flowers. You simply arrange them wherever you like in your garden.
The basics: How do you successfully crossbreed?
Have you unlocked crossbreeding in Heartopia? Now's the time to get started! It's all about crossing flowers of different colours to create a new one. Here's how to get started.
Where to plant your plants
For crossbreeding to work, don't plant your flower seeds just anywhere! To obtain a completely new colour, you need to place two seeds next to each other, or diagonally.
⚡ Warning : if you've played Animal Crossing: New Horizon, you'll probably want to plant your seeds in a square. Don't! Crossbreeding in Heartopia doesn't work that way.
The watering technique for crossbreeding in Heartopia
Once you've planted the flower seeds, you obviously need to water them. Flowers take an average of 18 hours to grow, so remember to water them regularly!
⚡ Warning, here's the most important information in this guide: at the end of the growing time, when the flower is mature, don't harvest it! For crossbreeding in Heartopia to work, you need to keep watering your flowers for a day or two, even when they are mature. This is important if you are to have a chance of harvesting a seed of a new colour.
Crossbreeding is a matter of luck: even if you've followed all the steps above, there's no guarantee that you'll get a seed of a new colour. However, to maximise your chances, ask your friends to water your flowers. Multiplayer watering increases your chances of crossbreeding.
The little stars above the flowers indicate that they have been watered by other players. Another tip is to buy Rainbow Powder to guarantee your chances of crossbreeding, which unlocks at gardening level 5.
Harvesting seeds
I've stressed the importance of continuing to water your flowers, even when they're mature. In fact, you need to water your flowers until a seed is available. And, with a bit of luck, you'll get a seed of the colour you want! All you have to do is pass over this seed with your character, and it will be stored in your rucksack.
