Fortnite
It's the news Battle Royale fans have been waiting for: 6 years after its withdrawal from iOS, Fortnite is coming back to iPhone and iPad. But make no mistake: the hatchet between Epic and Apple still hasn't been buried. We've already explained the Fortnite conflict between Epic and Google, but what's behind the historic BR's stormy return to iOS stores? I'll tell you all about it.
With the return of Fortnite to the App Store, you'll once again be able to download the game on iPhone and iPad. Here are the recommended settings for downloading Fortnite on iPhone and iPad:
| Component | Recommended configuration |
|---|---|
| Operating system | iOS 17.0, IPadOS 17.0 or later |
| Models | iPhone 11 or later, iPhone 11 Pro or later, iPhone 12 mini or later, iPhone SE or later, iPad Pro 10.5" or later, iPad Air 4 or later, iPad 10 or later, iPad Mini 6 or later |
| Memory | 2.6 GB |
Following the return of Fortnite to Google Play, Apple gamers will also be able to enjoy their favourite BR on their devices!
In the press release published by Epic Games yesterday on X, we understand that the return of Fortnite to iOS does not necessarily please Tim Sweeney, the studio's boss. Six years ago, in August 2020, Epic withdrew Fortnite from Apple stores to protest against the operation of the iOS shop, which was seen as a monopoly practising anti-competitive methods.
Apple does not allow alternative app shops or payment methods to exist outside the iOS ecosystem. But what Epic also doesn't like is Apple' s perceived abusive fees. All of this in the context of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA), which came into force in 2023 and are designed to limit the economic domination of platforms.

While Fortnite's return to iOS is now a foregone conclusion, Epic is not finished with the Apple brand.
The biggest disagreement between Tim Sweeney and Apple concerns the 30% levy on in-game purchases. Epic has won its case in court, forcing Apple to allow redirects to external payment methods.
The return of the mobile game Fortnite on iPhone and iPad is therefore taking place in a context that is still tense between the two American giants, but Epic is taking bets: Apple could be forced to be transparent about its abusive fees, a decision that should soon be handed down by the international federal court.
Now, with Fortnite back on iOS, V-Bucks are still subject to that 30% levy. Whatever the case, you can now install Fortnite on iPhone or iPad, despite the Apple vs Epic Games dispute, which is still far from over... !
