The best mobile game of the year - Mobi Awards 2024 Results

You massively voted to support your favourite titles, and thank you very much indeed, as we recorded a total of almost 9,500 votes! For this year's Mobi Awards 2024, we've selected 36 mobile games released in 2024, which will go head-to-head for the first time in 9 themed polls. After the first round, 9 winners will go head-to-head in the semi-finals. And in the end, only one will remain! Of the 3 finalists who have fought a merciless battle on our YouTube channel, our Instagram account or our Discord server, only one will make it to the top of the podium to become the overall winner of the Mobi Awards 2024.

The best puzzle game of 2024

The first poll to enter the arena is for Puzzle Games. This category includes Beyond the Room and Boxes Lost Fragments in very different styles, as well as Paper Trail and The Case of the Golden Idol. The votes varied quite a bit from one community to another, but the number of votes tied the top two games on Youtube for the win of Boxes Lost Fragments. I'm a bit surprised that The Case of The Golden Idol didn't get more votes!

Boxes Lost Fragments is the best puzzle game of the year at this year's Mobi Awards 2024. Snapbreak, behind the Doors series of puzzle games, came up with this nugget. A bit like House of Da Vinci, Boxes focuses on unique, interlocking objects full of detail to solve challenging puzzles on a small scale. You can manipulate them, rearrange them and progress through the levels using only ingenious boxes. There's plenty to turn your brain upside down with all those interlocking mechanical parts. Expect to pay around $7 to unlock the full game after the free demo.

The best casual game of 2024

So we've got our first winner in his category, and I suggest we take a look at the casual games released this year. Here we have Touchgrind X, the sublime Art of Rally, Disney Speedstorm and Pokémon TCG Pocket. Team Mobi.g's predictions were obvious, and you didn't disappoint. We all thought that Pokémon TCG Pocket would come out on top in this category, and that's exactly what happened. It really crushed the competition with 73% of the votes in its favour.

You're all hooked on collecting as soon as you see your two daily boosters go by. And that's understandable, we've all fallen for it. The Pokémon cards are beautiful, even if the collection system can be a bit dull, but that's what gacha is all about, and it also makes you want to grind. The duels are, frankly, anecdotal, but if you like the idea of a beautiful collection of cards on your phone, complete with sleeves and decorations, you've come to the right place.

The best gacha RPG of 2024

Next we move on to the category that's squarely dedicated to acute collectability and grind: that of gacha RPGs. We're talking here about games with a roster of characters and items to accumulate through reward systems and lootboxes, such as Ex Astris, Zenless Zone Zero, Wuthering Waves and Solo Leveling Arise. It was a fairly balanced category, except for Ex Astris, which garnered a meagre 5% of your votes. If you like complete, urban, anime-style worlds, Zenless Zone Zero will surely be your thing, and you've voted it the best gacha RPG of 2024.

In New Eridu, the last bastion of humanity threatened by supernatural catastrophes called Neanters. You take on the role of a 'proxy', whose job is to recruit agents to explore the Neanters and gather resources. The result is a beautiful game with an unforgettable chara design.

The best tactical RPG of 2024

The next category concerns a genre very much appreciated by our community: tactical RPGs. Here you had the choice between the classic Sword of Convallaria, the magnificent AFK Journey with its optimised composites, the strategic Grimguard Tactics or the Dofusian game, Waven. It was a relatively tight race, with votes evenly split between AFK Journey and Waven. And understandably, our hearts were in the balance too.

AFK Journey was a strong contender for us, but Waven woke up the French commu and won the title of best tactical RPG of 2024 on mobile.

Available free on Google Play and Appstore, Waven is a made-in-baguette game from Ankama Games. You play as an adventurer on the seas, where only a few islands have survived the great upheaval. From island to island, discover a tactical deckbuilding RPG with a colourful DA and cartoonish graphics.

Solo or with friends, in PvP or PvE, try out all the character types, items to equip, spells, companions, weapons and combinations. The game already offers a host of quests to challenge your strategic skills and your quest for greatness. It's an experience inspired by Dofus combat.

The best PvP game of 2024

Let's move on to the best PvP games. This category saw the MOBA Honor of Kings, Age of Empires mobile, Supercell heir Squad Busters and the FPS Blood Strike go head-to-head. The results for the PvP games were the closest of the entire Mobi Awards selection, with 3 out of 4 games between 25 and 35% of the vote. I would have put a coin on Squad Busters, but Blood Strike steals the show and becomes the best mobile PvP game of 2024.

The title imposes its half-Valorant, half-Apex style far ahead of Warzone at the time of its release. NetEase's FPS lets you play as strikers with unique skills. You'll probably recognise Valo's special effects, with cartoonish walls and explosions in a semi-realistic world. The games are fairly fast-paced and can be played solo or in co-op.

The Battle Royale mode invites 100 players to battle to the death, but that's not all. There's also the 4v4 Squad and the Hot Zone capture-the-flag modes. With that and the roster of 10 unique characters, you've got plenty of scope to try out all styles of play, from ranged to hand-to-hand combat with a katana.

The best adventure game of 2024

If you're a fan of immersive experiences for a night out or a long-term relationship, then adventure games have got you covered. Potion Permit, with its dubious concoctions, Strange Horticulture, for mushroom eaters, Little Nightmares Mobile, with its ultra-dark atmosphere, and Tarisland, with its colourful open world beckoning you to explore.

There's still plenty of time for the yellow waxwork. Little Nightmares Mobile wins this category hands down, so much the worse for budding alchemists.

Turn out the lights and curl up on your bed or sofa for a horrific descent into The Maw, a ship haunted by monstrosities that lurk in dark corners and reach out their hungry hands towards you under the dim neon lights. Navigate the levels on your own tiny scale as you face the giant inhabitants. Climb, run, jump, think about your movements and, above all, don't get caught. The game works completely on mobile for just $10.

The best roguelike of 2024

Victory by KO in the Roguelike category for 2024. Platypousse was delighted to see Hades on mobile this year, Yaya loved Children of Morta, which she still farms, I played Wildfrost and Balatro is a must-have, so we all had our favourites. And the most satisfying roguelike loop is Hades mobile, according to your votes. The graphics and sound are monstrously good in-game, as are the nervous animations and battles.

The best action / platforming game of 2024

Train your reflexes for speedrunning and dynamic gameplay phases with the action or platforming games category. Here we saw Warframe Mobile and its Tennos, a cute version of Rainbow Six Smol , the ninja experience of Katana Zero, and Death's Door. Yaya and Platypousse are big fans of Death's Door, but the community decided to vote Warframe mobile the best mobile action game of the year with 65% of the votes.

The best old school / pixel art game

Even in the New Year, we're still looking forward to the retro gaming sensations and visuals of another era, which is why we've got the old school or pixel art games category. A category represented by Buriedbornes 2, Loop Hero, Carrion and Kingdom Rush 5 Alliance TD.

The results were fairly even between 3 competitors, but Kingdom Rush took almost 50% of your votes and won easily.

In this fifth title, the tower defence franchise returns to centre stage with an Alliance of Two Armies. In terms of gameplay, this means you can play as two heroes at once! Choose from around thirty heroes and towers, and combine warriors, mages and peccores to form an elite defence. Improbable humour, challenges and easter eggs are always present. Battle enemies across 3 terrains, game modes and a campaign. Ironhide's game lands on our phones for $9 on Android and iOS.

Results of the Mobi Awards 2024 semi-finals

Now that the pool stages are over and each category has a winner, it remains to be seen which one will be voted best game of the year by the community. The 9 champions in their respective categories share the semi-finals. The first match is between Boxes Lost Fragments, winner of the Puzzle games category, Pokémon TCG Pocket, from the Casual games category, and Zenless Zone Zero, the famous triple Z, from the RPG gacha category.

On our networks, you've all agreed that Pokémon TCG Pocket should be the first runner-up , with 60% of the votes. The others are going to have a tough time of it. So let's see who's up against it in the other two semi-finals.

With the next two semi-finals, Waven and Hades have earned themselves a place in the final.

Here we are with a fine top 3 full of colourful, dynamic games. After counting your votes, we're left with a very clear win and a much tighter podium after that.

Top 3, it's Hades that slips onto the last step of the podium.

And in Top 1, you voted Pokémon TCG Pocket as the community's best mobile game of 2023 .
