Mobile Games News Review | Week of 24-30 January 2022

January 2022 Mobile Games Recap #4

Check out the weekly recap of mobile gaming news on Android and iOS for the week of January 24th to 30th, 2022! We'll let you read it all below. ⬇️

1️⃣ Theesport Clash of Clans is heating up this week as we find out about a wave of community tournaments, the new format of the World Championship Finals and details of the Clash of Clans World Championship 2022 tournament. To mark the tenth anniversary ofesport CoC, Supercell is offering a$1 million cashprize for its World Championship Final on September 23-25, 2022 IRL.

2️⃣ If you've been looking for an open-world adventure and action game set in the world of a famous licence, you shouldn't be disappointed by the announcement of Seven Deadly Sins Origins on mobile, PC and console. Presented by Netmarble, this game goes back to the origins of the manga and the original story imagined by Nakaba Suzuki. A short presentation trailer also revealed some in-game images allowing us to associate the graphic style of this game in production with the similar one of Genshin Impact. However, we will certainly have to wait for more information on the game.

3️⃣ In parallel to its work on Seven Deadly Sins Origins, Netmarble announced at its press event that it is working on a Game of Thrones MMORPG. Netmarble wants to make this title a small revolution in mobile gaming: developed under Unreal Engine 5, Game of Thrones mobile intends to offer graphics close to those of next-gen consoles and to blend the depth of the usual single-player experience with the incredible scale of multiplayer worlds. This would allow for dynamic weather, large-scale combat and innovative storytelling all at once while exploring Westeros. The promise is nice, but the latest GoT mobile game didn't convince us at all and we'll have to stay tuned for the first phases of test to get a real feel for the title.

4️⃣ A few days after the release of the game on PC and consoles came the release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel on Android and iOS. With slightly dated graphics, the game still promises a good dose of nostalgia and tries to unite old and new players around the same title.

5️⃣ 23rd playable character type, the Solaris class joins the Black Desert mobile roster. Hand-to-hand players will now have a new class to test out lords of the exclusive events that accompany the latest update to the game on Android and iOS.

6️⃣ NEXON's acclaimed MMORPG, HIT 2 reveals itself in images. Alternating between PvP and co-op, this Heroes of Incredible Tales MMORPG offers its first screenshots since its announcement, showing the interior of Intera Castle and the landscape of Tria Field. The title is expected to be released this year.

7️⃣ multiplayer stalking RPG Sky Frontier Fantasy Battle has just been announced by BIGBANG for release on PC and mobile. Similar to Dauntless, this mobile fantasy hunting title has you, alone or in a group of 4-8 players going on an expedition to take down awesome creatures on islands floating in the void. However, the twist is the addition of NFT technology for a play-to-earn model, as many games are starting to offer.

8️⃣ With the 1.8 update of PUBG Mobile, a brand new map makes its appearance - Aftermath. As the name suggests, the map has been altered by a catastrophe. Here, in the near future, the map of Livik has been altered by the sudden eruption of a volcano. Not only is the terrain different, but all that heat has also melted the ice in the area. The lava and heat will inflict damage that you can resist by using more healing items. But the 1.8 update has other new features to discover in the patch notes.

9️⃣ Devsisters, the studio behind Cookie Run: Kingdom, has this week announced 3 new titles in the Cookie Run license currently in the works. With such a successful track record, it's no surprise to see them being chained together so quickly. The three titles include Cookie Run Witch's Castle, Cookie Run: Project B and Cookie Run: Oven Smash. Witch's Castle focuses on a hybrid gameplay between puzzles, explosions and room decoration (probably a kind of match 3 with spending points phases). Project B, on the other hand, is set to be a casual 3D mobile multiplayer action game featuring aggressive combat with unique cookie-cutter skills. Finally, Oven Smash, scheduled for the second half of 2022, stands out for its choice to offer brawler-style arena gameplay. If you enjoyed the colourful world of Cookie Run: Kingdom, you'll have the opportunity to dive back into it via various titles coming this year.

Be sure to check out the latest mobile game releases to see what's new! See you next week for fresh news on your favourite mobile games. 😃
