With Project Party, the new game announced by Lilith Games, and the leaks about HoYoVerse's Animal-Crossing-like game, it would seem that life simulators still have a bright future ahead of them. What's more, another title in the genre has opened its global pre-registrations on Android and iOS: Tales of Terrarum, a life sim set in a fantasy world. But unlike Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon, this game includes elements of strategy and gacha... Quite a programme!
Tales of Terrarum, a business and industry-oriented life simulator
In Tales of Terrarum, developed by Electronic Soul (which has nothing to do with the 'Tales of' series), you play the role of a descendant of the Francz, a noble family who have left you a town to become mayor and make it prosper. Sound familiar? Tales of Terrarum has a similar storyline to many games in the genre (Stardew Valley, My Time At, Harvest Moon...), as well as the same general gameplay mechanics.
Unsurprisingly, you'll have to rebuild your house and your entire village with the help of workers, cultivate your vegetable garden, meet the villagers and meet their needs. But Tales of Terrarum also includes a system for enriching and developing your village's industry.
A bit like a strategy game like Call of Dragons, Rise of Kingdoms and many others, you will have to send troops of adventurers outside your borders. These adventurers will fight your enemies to collect resources, which will allow you to develop your economy, trade with merchants and expand your town.
Tales of Terrarum, a gacha above all else?
Did you think you'd escape the gacha system in Tales of Terrarum? Not a chance! The trailer shows off all the gacha mechanics. For example, there's a system for drawing characters by opening chests to be unlocked with a key, an item that you can probably collect through daily quests, also shown in the trailer.
The workers and adventurers collected via the draws are classified by rarity, have specific skills and you can upgrade them using different resources... You can also buy packs in the shop for real money . In short, everything that makes Gacha so special is brought together in this next life sim.
On the Tales of Terrarum Facebook page, you'll also find dungeons to explore, and an arena where you can get your characters to fight. And if you want to find out a little more about the game's lore, there are plenty of posts revealing the game's background.
For the moment, we don't know whether it will be a pay-to-win game or whether the economic system will favour free-to-play players. Interested in this hybrid life simulator? Don't miss out on pre-registration, available on Android and iOS. We'll keep you posted as soon as the official release date is known!
