At Mobi.gg, we love indie games with a nice, original proposition (and, if possible, a pretty AD). So it's hard not to mention Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure, the colourful puzzle-game with RPG elements that's out today on Android and iOS, via Netflix subscription. If you've been following SGF 2024, you certainly won't have missed this title developed and published by independent studio Furniture & Mattress. For the rest of you, here's this new game you won't want to miss!
Arranger, a 2D puzzle-game with simple but effective mechanics
In the indie game Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure, you play as Jemma, a young girl on the fringes of society embarking on a kind of initiation quest to find herself and discover the world. The RPG aspect of the game remains fairly soft , however: in Arranger, there's no inventory management or XP gain. You can simply manage your character in the environment.
The game's DA will certainly remind you of that of Braid, and for good reason: both were designed by the same person, David Hellman.
Like Monument Valley orUnmaze, Arranger is a puzzle game. But what sets it apart is its presentation in the form of a single grid, with interconnected levels. As you move Jemma around this grid, the whole environment will be affected by your movements.
As you move in the 4 available directions (up, down, left or right), you will be asked to solve puzzles. The puzzles to be solved in Arranger are very well done, but will sometimes give you a hard time!
Exploration and combat in Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure
As well as solving puzzles, in Arranger you'll take part in combat using the basic mechanic: you'll have to move a weapon in one of 4 possible directions untilit hits the enemy and inflicts damage. There are other missions and mini-games on offer, such as escort quests and fishing (a guarantee of quality gameplay).
Exploration in Arranger consists of manipulating your environment, modifying space to understand the interactions between different objects. You're bound to be surprised and sometimes even amazed by some of them.
Arranger is a clever, intelligent and really fun game that we strongly recommend you try out on Android and iOS, via your Netflix subscription! However, the adventure is still fairly short, and we hope that Furniture & Mattress will be adding more content in the coming months.
