Feel free to play toreador with Alistar in LoL: Wild Rift. But be aware that you're entering a dangerous area and the minotaur might make a few bumps. He's not afraid to run into the crowd and has plenty of crowd control. When properly controlled, it creates havoc in opposing lines and allows you to play very aggressively in lane. Tempted by the adventure, but don't know where to start? Here's our Alistar support Wild Rift guide to learn the basics before you start Ranked.
This guide will go over Alistar's iconic combo, break down his role in lane and teamfight and determine the most effectiveitemization on the champion.
Alistar is one of the tankiest characters in the game and has an excellent defensive ultimate skill. In his itemisation, we try to make him even more resistant, with armour, magic resistance and health points. If you can't completely ignore utility items to help your allies, Alistar's strong point is to put his body in opposition to absorb a maximum of damage.
There's no real suspense, we're improving Alistar's Atomisation - Headbutt combo as a priority. Since Atomisation is often more useful, this is the skill that is favoured. Trampling is not that easy to place; you don't usually invest in this skill at the beginning of the game by keeping it at a lower rank.
Triumphant shout (passive) | When Alistar takes damage, he periodically heals himself and his allies. The recovery time is reduced when the minotaur stuns an enemy. |
Atomisation | Enemies in the vicinity of Alistar are thrown into the air and suffer magical damage. |
Headbutt | Alistar runs at an enemy to wound them and throw them in the opposite direction. The mount can also aim at a turret to inflict damage. |
Trampling | Alistar wounds nearby enemies and gains charges every second he hits an enemy champion. After 5 charges, his next basic attack will deal bonus damage and stun. |
Iron will (final) | Purges all control effects and massively reduces damage taken for 7 seconds. |
When you play Alistar in support on Wild Rift, you're usually looking for action right from the lane phase. The Headshot - Atomisation combo is worth testing for a few minutes with the training tool. Once you have mastered it, don't hesitate to loop on fragile enemies to give rhythm and force short but advantageous trades . Ideally, you should also use Trample to stick your target and add a stunning auto-attack to the rotation. However, Alistar is not a one-dimensional champion. He excels at aggression, but can also disengage by sending an enemy too threatening for your carry home.
From the lane phase, the minotaur can also try to roam in midlane. Without being a jungler, its combo can surprise and put in great difficulty an imprudent opponent. In teamfights, you must also use Iron Will intelligently. Its damage reduction allows you to rush into the crowd without fear of dying quickly. In addition, as ultimate purges crowd control, one usually tries to cast the skill after absorbing a cage or stun.
Alistar is looking for a partner who can keep up with his frantic pace as a rampaging minotaur. He can serve up kills on a silver platter to a champion like Draven, who can then feast on them and line his pockets. The Triumphant Scream passive that heals Alistar and his ally when the support takes damage also regenerates after short trades , further encouraging the fight. Another synergy to look for in the draft phase is to form the duo Alistar-Jhin, two top tier champions. While the cowboy engages, the sniper can follow from a distance, shoot from a safe distance and even participate in the crowd control rotation.
The utility champions Janna and Lulu can easily become a nuisance. They are fragile and Alistar dreams of nuking them... The problem is that they have a long range and have effective ways of keeping their distance from the minotaur. The latter risks being useless and getting poached in the lane phase. In this type of match-up, you will have to wait for your time and an enemy positioning error to hope to find an opening.
The classic combo is to use Headbutt - Atomisation to close on an enemy and throw them into the air. Periodically, Alistar support Wild Rift also features a Lightning Jump which opens up a new possibility! This involves flashing into an enemy, throwing them into the air with Atomisation and then going behind their back and bringing them back into your team with Headbutt. This move is not always easy to place but should guarantee you a free kill.
Alistar also has a somewhat complicated relationship with walls. He can get through some with Headbutt provided he has vision and an enemy target is present on the other side. More problematically, if he misses his combo, he can throw an enemy in an undesired direction and give them an unintended escape route. This is even more problematic when you send an opponent behind a wall...
