If the first steps in Genshin Impact are easy, the level of the game becomes increasingly difficult as your adventure progresses. You've probably already come up against some tough bosses, not to mention the Spiral Abyss. Do you feel that your heroes lack strength? Don't worry, you can considerably increase their power with the right equipment and by increasing their talents. It is also important to choose a balanced team in order to progress quickly in the game. With this guide and our tips, you'll know how to improve your characters in Genshin Impact! By awakening the potential of your team, you will be able to defeat all the enemies that cross your path.
Level up your characters in Genshin Impact
As you can imagine, the first step in making a character more powerful is to increase his level. For the moment, in Genshin Impact, a character can reach level 90 at the most. But it will not be easy, raising a hero requires time and especially a lot of resources.
Increasing the level of a hero
At the beginning of the adventure you can reach level 20. You will need Moras and experience scrolls. There are 3 types of scrolls: Wanderer's Advice (1000 EXP), Adventurer's Experience (5000 EXP) and Hero's Wit (20,000 EXP). You can get them from chests, quests and by making Blossom of Revelation (from adventure level 12) in exchange for 20 resins.
Raising a character
Once you have reached level 20, you will need to increase your adventure level to then level up your character in Genshin Impact and unlock the next phase. To do this, you will need specific materials, which can be found on bosses and monsters. To make it easier for you, locate the creatures you need to fight on your map by going to the Adventurer Handbook, under the Enemies tab. You will also need materials such as flowers, ores, shells, etc. Check the interactive map of Teyvat to locate them.
Strengthen your characters' talents
Your characters are already high level, but still do little damage? Being level 90 is not enough to make a character powerful. In order to awaken its full potential, it is essential to increase its talents. There are 3 abilities: normal attack, elemental attack and elemental rampage. You can raise each of them to level 10.
To do this you will need several resources, including books. You can get them in specific dungeons from adventure level 27 onwards. However, they are only available 3 days a week, including Sundays. And from level 6 onwards, you will also need materials from the dungeons of conquest.
However, it is not necessary to increase all skills for each character. You are advised to save your resources. Make sure you only upgrade the talents you use regularly. In the case of main DPS, it is often all talents that need to be upgraded. Support characters rarely use their normal attack.
How to choose the equipment of your characters in Genshin Impact
To perform well in Genshin Impact, your characters must be well equipped. Weapons and artefacts can greatly increase the damage they inflict.
Artifacts
Genshin Impact offers many sets of artefacts. You can loot them in dungeons, chests, by completing quests, etc. You can get additional effects if you have 2 or 4 pieces of a set. To make sure your character's build is well optimised, choose artefact sets that improve your character's abilities.
The same goes for stats. In general, you can increase the offensive potential of your characters by choosing sets that boost attack, critical hits and energy recharge. But some characters, especially the Geo heroes, need high defence: the effectiveness of some of their talents is calculated according to their defence. Others, like Bennett and Hu Tao, need to have maximum HP, etc.
Also, artifacts have a rank from 1 to 5. It is recommended that you give your characters 5-star artefacts as much as possible: their stats will be higher. To do this, wait until you are at adventure level 45 to do artefact dungeons. You can then raise them to level 20 by sacrificing artefacts you are not using.
Your characters' weapons
There are 5 types of weapons: one-handed sword, two-handed sword, catalyst, bow and hast weapon. For each, dozens of different models are available.
We advise you to use 4 and 5 star weapons. These can be obtained mainly from the Banners by making wishes. It is also possible to make them at the blacksmith's, to get them thanks to the Battle Pass or even during certain events.
Just like artifacts, characters in Genshin Impact have specific needs. Be sure to choose your weapon based on your skills, gameplay and how you want to use them.
You can increase them to level 90 with resources, which are obtained in upgrade dungeons and Enhancement Minerals. But it doesn't stop there. A weapon can be refined up to 5 times. To do this, you need to have several copies of the weapon. This increases its effects.
What you need to remember to improve your characters in Genshin Impact
In summary, to significantly improve your characters in Genshin Impact and progress more easily, you need to ensure that their most important talents have been increased and that they are equipped with a weapon and artefact sets that suit their gameplay. These should have good stats and a high level. You can also boost the abilities of your main DPS through his teammates. Opt for support characters that give him attack bonuses. By having at least two characters of the same type, you can benefit from elemental resonance effects.
Finally, we advise you to concentrate on a small number of heroes. As resources are expensive, it will be difficult to fully level all the characters in the game. To help you choose, you can consult our detailed guides:
