In the midst of strikes demanding higher wages, Ubisoft employees are still working between plates of pasta to bring us new game: the release of Invincible: Guarding The Globe. This RPG based on Robert Kirkman's animated series and super-heroic comic books is bringing its colourful costumes and characters to Android and iOS in an idle, free-to-play format. Let's take a look at the gameplay and atypical universe of the mobile game Invincible together to find out if it's worth a try.
The release of Invincible: Guarding the Globe is the result of a collaboration between Skybound Entertainment and Ubisoft. In the game, you'll meet the characters you might know from the Global Defense Agency. Invincible, Dupli-Kate, Green Ghost and their companions are back in action for an original story. In terms of gameplay, collect attacking, defending and supporting characters, combine them to make up your crack team and upgrade them with materials you've farmed in idle.
Invincible on mobile isn't a revolutionary formula, but like Street Fighter: Duel, which is also an idle RPG, the adaptation of this fighting series into a gacha remains solid. Some would have preferred a real fighting game based on licences such as Invincible, but it's still the gacha RPG that dominates the market.
Those who pre-registered for the mobile release of Invincible: Guarding the Globe can now pick up their exclusive rewards: a Burger Mart Burger, 35,000 superhero XP, two superhero folders and 50,000 GDA chips. Incidentally, if you want to keep up with other Ubisoft productions on the go on your phone, check out BUMP Superbrawl! and Gwen's Getaway.
One of the big strengths of Invicible, and therefore of its transposition into a mobile game, is its comic-book graphics from another era and its mature look. For those who, like me before writing this news, are unfamiliar with the franchise of violent and mature superheroes, it's a universe that began under the pen of Robert Kirkman before landing for 2 seasons on Amazon Prime from 2021.
You have to admit that the characters have a touch of Totally Spies about them. Is it just me who sees Sam, Alex and Jerry in this unlikely roster?
We normally follow the story of Mark Grayson, a slightly lost teenager who enters the world of superheroes by following in the footsteps of his father, the most powerful of them all. Of course, the more things progress, the more the perfect image of his father crumbles, and the black and white world of childhood becomes more nuanced, but also graphic and gory. Imagine a DC Comics-style universe, but one that's quite violent, closer to The Boys than a Disney film.
However, the release of Invincible: Guarding the Globe retains these characteristics and establishes a spin-off narrative in which you'll have to take up arms against an army of clones. And perhaps unveil a story of stolen burger meat, a real mission worthy of superheroes...
