Discover the weekly recap of mobile games news on Android and iOS for the week of May 30th to June 5th 2022! On the agenda this week: the release of Diablo Immortal and eFootball 2022, news about Fullmetal Alchemist on mobile, the 2.7 update of Genshin Impact, a discovery of the ultimate video games archive and much more to discover in this recap. We'll let you read it all below. ⬇️
1️⃣ Let's start this recap with the release of Diablo Immortal. The title takes place 20 years after the events of Diablo 2 and uses most of the codes that made the success of the license. Moreover, the six character classes offered and their skills are strongly reminiscent of Diablo 3. They lack a bit of variety, but the gameplay is more challenging than in Torchlight Infinite for example.
As far as the lore is concerned, the universe to be explored extends to both PC and mobile, even if the PC version is a bit soft because this port lacks optimization in terms of controls and controller support. As for the business model, Diablo Immortal is more flexible than you might think. Drops are still pretty good and PvE is done without having to pay a cent. But to stay competitive with the premium players, you'll have to at least take the 5 euro pass when you start.
I wasn't dazzled by the darkness of Sanctuary like in previous Diablo titles but the well done graphics will allow you to fully enjoy a new original story with this a-rpg that joins the best titles on the market. Even if some people expected a little more effort from Blizzard to make this new title really special, Diablo Immortal does it quite well. I probably won't farm it for long, but it will make a good pastime for many Android and iOS players.
2️⃣ The second news item in this recap, the release of eFootball 2022 gives mobile gamers access to this successor to the PES license. Released in April on PC and consoles, the cross-platform title was struggling with matchmaking and server stability, but has finally decided to launch on Android and iOS. With the loss of the FIFA license at EA, the opportunity is too good for this new Konami license to push FIFA out of its market leading position.
On the gameplay side, player behaviour on the pitch has been redesigned and gravity and inertia have more influence than before to offer more variation in dribbling, passing and shooting. Dream Team mode will allow you to put together the team of your dreams and the iconic Masters League won't be available until 2023. If you're not afraid of its complex controls, hit the virtual turf on mobile now and find out more about eFootball 2022 in our dedicated article on Mobi.gg.
3️⃣ Made possible by crowdfunding, Path of Titans will enter closed beta this summer. A realistic dinosaur simulation, this title by Alderon Games intends to offer a similar experience to The Isle, with a greater variety of gameplay. You will be able to play as a dinosaur in the third person and evolve on a map of 200 players while trying to survive. In the air, in the water or on land, dinosaurs will be everywhere in the Path of Titans MMORPG. Currently available as a multiplayer demo, the game costs €20 for full access on mobile and PC in cross-platform.
4️⃣ On the realistic simulation side, strategy games have often had great success. This week, pre-registration for World War Armies just opened on iOS, while the game is already available in beta on Android. With an official release scheduled for this month, the RTS from Hypemasters studio plunges us into the middle of the Second World War, with an important issue of territory control.
A strategy game in isometric view, World War Armies focuses on 1v1 PvP for a real face-to-face battle on the field where the objective is to control areas long enough or to destroy the opponent's HQ . The gameplay follows the classic codes of real-time strategy, with supplies, buildings to build and army management with a variety of units ranging from infantry to engineers, tanks or medics that you can develop with a gacha system per map.
Currently two factions are available: Germany and the United States. Even if the content is a bit lacking, the World War Armies beta could be a good simplified alternative to games like Starcraft or Company of Heroes.
5️⃣ The car racing metaverse is launched on mobile with Infinite Drive. In this title imagined by The Tiny Digital Factory, a French-Canadian studio, the resolutely play-to-earn gameplay will push you to tryhard races to win rewards and NFT of vehicles. With the experience of titles such as GT Manager or Shell Racing Legends, the studio has already proven itself on the mobile racing market. At launch, the realistic driving simulation will feature more than 100 models, including the Alpine A110S, Renault RS01 and AC Cobra Superblower, which can be customised and traded on the game's marketplace. The title will come out of its alpha phase in late 2022, but you can try to get your seat now on the game's Discord linked in our article.
6️⃣ Brought to you by Chinese creators Wanda Cinemas Games, the gacha Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice opens for pre-registration. In this new opus concocted under the supervision of Masami Kurumada, the creator of the license, you will have to try to reach the temple of Athena and prevent the goddess from being the target of a plot while the 12 Golden Knights block your way. To achieve this, you will have your own team of fighters to optimise according to the synergies between the knight types and their elements.
With a release date of July, the title will have around 80 characters available at launch and multiple quests to enhance your progress. You can pre-register for Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice now on Android and iOS to get exclusive rewards launches, and the game is already in beta in select countries in America.
7️⃣ Sybo Games is turning its Subway Surfers license into a Match-3 on Android and iOS. If you love the company of Jake, Tricky or even Yutani, you can now solve colourful match-3 levels alongside them. Available now in early access in Indonesia and the Philippines, the title does not yet have a global release date.
As with other games in the genre, the goal is to complete the objectives in each grid with a minimum of moves, strategically lining up blocks in 3s or more to reveal bonuses. In Subway Surfers Match, you can also challenge your friends to see who has the best score and join a team to participate in in-game competitions. As you earn points, you'll unlock paint cans to decorate the city in your image.
8️⃣ We've been telling you about a Fullmetal Alchemist mobile game since the license's 20th anniversary last July. Well Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile is opening pre-registration in Japan this week on Android and iOS. Square Enix 's game will be a tactical RPG fighting game, according to the first images from the previous months. On the narrative side, the original story is updated with 3D graphics and animations to enhance the 40 characters from the anime. For the moment, no worldwide release date for Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile has been announced.
9️⃣ After the re-release of Moonlighter, it's the turn of the famous card game Exploding Kittens to join the Netflix mobile games catalog. The goal of the SVOD giant is to reach the mark of 50 mobile games available in its subscription to bring back new users and fully diversify its activities.
By picking up the rights to the game, Netflix also plans to offer additional never-before-seen Exploding Kittens content, and at this rate, it won't be long before the company has a strong presence on mobile.
🔟 While the CEO of Take-Two is getting a little angry at companies that are jumping into the metaverse by sticking meta or NFT to their box name, Sony is reaffirming its desire to move into mobile and PC. At an investor meeting Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced that by 2024 and 2025, half of Sony's new releases will have a PC and mobile port. To pursue this expansion plan, Sony is not hesitating to acquire back-up studios such as Nixxes Software for the PC port and intends to offer a dozen live-service games to strengthen Sony's presence at the top of the market.
1️⃣1️⃣ Since 30 but, Catch 'em battles have landed on Pokémon Unite. To spice up the fight before the summer, these battles allow you to turn your Pokémon into a Pokémon objective you just beat. So rather than waiting for your mates to rotate, take full control ofZapdos or Incarnez Regigigas and show them what you're made of.
With Catch 'em Battles, you'll be able to vary your gameplay in the arena and step in at key moments with a new role to strengthen your team for a specific purpose, which is great for battle versatility. But to get the most out of the Battles, you'll need to know the different playstyles of the other Pokémon, so enjoy!
1️⃣2️⃣ Still in the world of those not-so-cute little creatures, we find out the teaser for Pokémon GO's Ultra update. Alongside the launch of Battle League Season 11 on June 1, this teaser reveals additional content around the region of Alola, which is being targeted by portals to the multiverse from which invasiveUltra Beasts are emerging.
Visually, you can recognize Nihilego, a parasitic chimera that has both Poison and Rock types. With no dedicated legendary raid, this Ultra update announces the arrival of a new exploration mechanic with chimeras to fight. The teaser also reveals a member of the Ultra Commando, but nothing is known about him. It could be a skin or a new Team Rocket-like enemy.
1️⃣3️⃣ After an interminable delay for fans, the 2.7 update for Genshin Impact is finally out! Entitled Buried Dreams in the Depths, this update will last 6 weeks like the others. It introduces a new quest for Archon in the Abyss, the two new characters Yelan and Kuki Shinobu and 4 events over the duration of the patch.
All the content of this update is detailed in our dedicated article on Mobi.gg, and I take advantage of this parenthesis to let you enjoy a few seconds of this replica of Skyward Pride, a very recognizable weapon from Genshin Impact made by maoh cosplay which delighted fans on Reddit this week. Not only is this replica beautiful, but it also lights up at night. So, who wants the same one?
1️⃣4️⃣ Small anecdote of the week to conclude this recap, Embracer Gaming Archive aims to archive all the video games in the world. This new project aims to archive and protect as much of the video game industry's heritage as possible, so imagine a place where all the games, consoles and accessories ever released are lined up in large libraries. At present, the archive location in Sweden already has 50,000 items archived and this list continues to grow to allow the video game culture to remember its history and continue to grow with the ability to look back.
