The announcement came yesterday evening: this legendary game with millions of players is finally going to get its own series! It's official: Mojang Studios and Netflix are currently working on a Minecraft series, the sandbox game that is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary. We reveal the details of this project.
After Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Garena Free Fire, it's the turn of another game to enjoy its own animated series. However, the Netflix Minecraft series is far from having revealed all its secrets. What we do know for the moment is that the global streaming giant is working in collaboration with Swedish studio Mojang, creators of the famous cube game we've all probably played. Mojang was acquired on 15 September 2014 by another giant, Microsoft, for $2.5 billion.

No release date has been announced for the Minecraft series. Nor do we yet know the storyline or the format of the episodes. All we know is that the series will have an original story and will introduce new characters. Netflix has also said that the Minecraft universe will be shown "in a new light". Pretty intriguing...
Another notable tidbit: the Minecraft series will be CG-animated by Canadian studio WildBrain, which has already collaborated with Netflix on a number of animated series, including Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising and Carment Sandiego .
While we now know that the game, which has sold more than 300 million copies on the Netflix catalogue, will be back in the coming months, another adaptation is also planned. The Minecraft film, directed by Jared Hess, is due for release on 4 April 2025, with a prestigious cast to say the least: Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks and Jack Black, who will play the role of Steve. The story follows a group of adventurers on a mission to save the Overworld from the notorious Ender Dragon.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further news about the Netflix series. In the meantime, if you're a subscriber to the catalogue, you can always watch other video game-inspired series like Arcane, Castlevania or Cyberpunk while you wait!
