Epic admits to copying Among Us for Fortnite Impostors

Fortnite Impostors mode plagiarism Among Us

We told you about the Fortnite Impostors mode in August, the arrival of plagiarized content from Among Us without any authorization from the studio Innersloth! A very cool move for players who were able to enjoy a breath of fresh air on their BR, but a big disappointment for the studio behind Among Us which, if not involved in the creation of the mode, would have at least hoped for a minimum of recognition on social networks. Here's a look at the outcome of this Fortnite Among Us mode.

Fortnite Impostors copied from Among Us? Of course

More obvious than the nose on your face, the plagiarism of Fortnite Impostors mode on Among Us was doing nothing to hide. Innersloth spoke out at the time of the 17.40 update about the mode's appearance. Obviously, it was to publicly mark their disappointment with this copy of a giant too big for them. This time, it's Fortnite that's reigniting the discussion to acknowledge that it was "inspired" by their treacherous game. This may not sound like much. But it's a good starting point that avoids building up tension between the two communities.

Why did it take the official Fortnite twitter account a month to speak out? Perhaps Epic thought the tweets about its plagiarism would die down once the release was behind them. No one could say it was a perfect copy without Epic admitting fault, or "inspiration" for Fortnite Impostors.

However, the community was not fooled. Moreover, the game terms were not even adapted from one game to another. The gameplay was almost identical and the whole atmosphere was plagiarised.

As well as this tweet, many people have spoken out to highlight Epic's hypocrisy with Fortnite Impostors. While fighting Apple to curb its unfair practices, to allow itself to copy a smaller studio without so much as a nod of acknowledgement or a Twitter DM, it had to be done. A stab in the back from a fake crewmate.

But hey, all's well that ends well (except for intellectual property, which remains a grueling issue in video games). Indeed, Innersloth and Epic have announced on Twitter that they are working together to enhance Fortnite Impostors content in a more legitimate way. So, is it a case of "half the blame is paid"?
