The refresh rate of a screen is expressed in Hertz (Hz). Whether it's on phone screens, tablets, computers or even televisions, the refresh rate indicates the number of images that are displayed every second. Understand that the higher the rate, the smoother and more pleasant your image will be to watch. So, better visual comfort, optimized gaming experience, multiple reasons push manufacturers today to opt for 90 Hz and 120 Hz screens.
Let's take a look at the different phones with 90 Hz, 120 Hz and 144 Hz screens thanks to this complete list! 📲
So it's hard to answer this question with a simple yes. The first question to ask yourself is: what do you use your smartphone for? If you only use it as a phone, then no, a good refresh rate will not help you!
On the other hand, if you are a gamer and you love playing games on your phone, then in this case, a high refresh rate will take all its flavour.
Going from a 60 Hz screen to a 120 Hz screen is quite bluffing, I must admit. A blatant example, when I switched (on my PC, for that matter) to a 144 Hz screen, well I'm not telling you about the FPS the number of headshots...! 😂 (and it has nothing to do with talent, it's just the screen that did it all).
In short, this technology is obviously more for gamers who want to enjoy a quality gaming experience.
However, there is another parameter to take into account. Your 120 Hz screen can only perform well if it is accompanied by a worthy graphics chip . It is the balance between the two that will deliver outstanding performance.
Finally, you will note that in these lists, only Android devices appear, since at present, noiPhone screen exceeds 60 Hz...
90 Hz displays are very, very suitable for mobile gaming. Basically, a 90 Hz screen has a 50% higher refresh rate than a 60 Hz screen. Thevisual experience is therefore much smoother. Most previous generation phones have 60 Hz screens. This is really a step up.
🔝 FYI: smartphones with a star next to their name in this list, are the ones in our selection of the best gaming phones! 🔝

📂 A quick aside about the refresh rate of tablet screens:
So far, nothing crazy, there are quite low display frequencies, but it is slowly becoming interesting. As proof, in our guide to the best gaming tablets, we have selected theApple iPad 11 Pro , which is a little marvel of technology, with a 120 Hz screen. We also note the latest Samsung tablet (released at the end of August 2020): the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, which also has a 120 Hz screen.
144Hz displays on mobile are rare on the market. For the moment, it's hard to judge their relevance as mobile games are not really optimised for it yet. But, there's no stopping technology, so you can be sure that in the near future, 144 Hz on mobile phone screens will be the new standard!

Many mobile games are now optimised for a 120 Hz smartphone experience . Whether it's fighting games, RPGs or MMORPGs, racing games, RTS, MOBAs, adventure or strategy games, the list is long and it's not the object of this article. But to give you an idea, here is a small selection of 20 games optimised for 120 Hz screens*:
*Note that these games will not necessarily use 120Hz, but are compatible with 120Hz panel technologies and adaptive refresh.

To sum up, it is important to know that a high refresh rate will really be an asset for mobile gamers. For conventional use, let's be honest, a 90Hz or 120Hz screen is a technology that won't make a huge difference to everyday life.
Of course, we'll be sure to update this list as new smartphones are released. However, if a phone is not listed, it's not necessarily because its screen is below 90Hz, it might just be an oversight on our part 😉
