Don't know what to try out on your phone - on the move, at home or even in the toilet? Every second of gaming must be worthwhile, so the Mobi.gg editorial team has put together a selection of the best mobile games of August 2025. These high-quality free and premium titles were released in July, but they're sure to complete your collection and are available now on Android or iOS.

Our favourite mobile games of the month

This month we've fallen for two great new releases. Make some room on your storage space, because these mobile games are going to be hard to resist.

Blazblue Entropy Effect

Embark immediately on hours of side-scrolling action and metroidvania-style map exploration with this 91Act release. Blazblue is an explosive title from China with several million downloads under its belt, a well-honed gameplay loop and excellent combo and build sensations between the 14 characters, both in single and multiplayer. Take on bosses and unleash your power on the screen, with beautiful VFX.

If you're looking for dynamic combat and fluid handling, you can add the famous Blazblue to your collection of Dead Cells and Katana Zero games. In-game, the atmosphere is as dark as they come, with sharp blades and precise animations. The character design is stunning. You'll want to stick around for a while and try out all the possible combos.

Blazblue itself is free to play, and you can buy additional characters for a few dollars.

Subnautica Mobile

This horrific survival game plunges you into the abyssal depths of space. This title from studio Unknown Worlds sees you as a space traveller for the sprawling Alterra corporation. On the way to your destination, your ship suffers an explosion from an unknown source, and you and the rest of the crew crash-land on the mysterious planet 4546B .

Discover wild life forms, crack more and more technologies, find survivors and try to return home with the means at hand.

Before I tell you about the other games of the month, I wanted to remind you that we've got a page bringing together the very latest mobile games for those who like to be ahead of the trends.

August's must-try mobile games

With dozens of releases a day on the various game shops, it's hard to keep track. So we've gone through it all for you, and here are the best releases of the past month to try out over the next 30 days:

  • Blood Line makes its debut on Netflix in the premium subscription, via Play Store. Take control of your sniper in a twin stick shooter RPG with fluid controls and pleasant handling. Set in Zack Snyder's sci-fi universe, you'll explore the planet Krypte over the course of the campaign, with a brand new story arc.
  • Pokémon Friends, a slightly surprising casual package that means your favourite creatures will follow you to the toilet or on the move, on Play Store and App Store. In the game, the aim is never really to get stuck in, but rather to collect fluffy versions of the Pokémon you already love. The puzzles come in sets of 3, and once you've solved a set, you get access to catalogue plush creation. It's cute and tender, even if you quickly get bogged down by the number of daily puzzles without touching your wallet.
  • Metal Slug Tactics is available as a Crunchyroll subscription, via Play Store and App Store. The retro DA of the first instalments has been modernised, and the arcade-style run-and-gun gameplay is still very much present. All the basics are there, from freeing prisoners and collecting new weapons to super-vehicles and epic bosses.
  • HAIKYU FLY HIGH is now available on Play Store and App Store, featuring epic volleyball battles, characters from the series such as Hinata and Oikawa, and original scenes with voices from the anime, as you put together the best team possible to take Karasuno High to the top!
  • YuYu Hakusho: Slugfest is another anime-inspired game on Play Store and App Store. In this gacha RPG, follow the adventures of Yusuke Urameshi, who intends to come back to life by successfully completing a series of tough tests that will remind you of iconic anime scenes and quests in every direction.
  • Battlemons, in early access on Play Store, is a cute, well-made creature-collecting game. In-game, capture and grow your baby battlemons to their maximum stage to develop their combat synergies. Face off against other trainers or even bosses, and prove the worth of your creatures thanks to their relentless training and your strategic mind.
  • Wargroove 2 Pocket Edition on Play Store and App Store features a 20-hour tactical campaign, an infinitely repeatable roguelite mode and even multiplayer. Take on factions in turn-based combat, using your commanders and the full power of your cards to win your battles.
  • True Fear Forsaken Souls 3 arrived on Play Store and App Store on 3 July. In this third opus in the series, room after room, each step makes your exploration even more suffocating. The atmosphere is slow and heavy, with scenes teeming with detail. True Fear 3 may well surprise us for the rest of the summer, provided you pay $5.50 to try out the full version.
  • Deadly Dudes is a side-view survival-action game where you mix basic construction, sarcastic heroes and zombie-killing galore to make a vitamin-packed, purely retro cocktail. The game is available on Play Store and App Store.
  • Prickle, a little Sokoban-style puzzle game, is available for $4.50 on Play Store. Play as Father Hedgehog and go in search of his little hedgehogs in this fun puzzle game.
  • Atuel is a mix of video game and documentary on Play Store. It takes you on a journey through pastel-coloured scenery, with expert testimonials and information on the impact of climate change in the region. It's based on the actual topology of the area, while inviting you to change your natural form to become a cloud, a fox or other animals as the story unfolds, and gain a better understanding of the region.

Thank you for reading this far. I hope you enjoy your gaming sessions this month.
