Square Enix recently announced the expansion of its family of development studios. We then learned of the existence of Square Enix London Mobile. And this studio doesn't seem to be idle as it is already working on two games: Tomb Raider Reloaded (a mobile Lara Croft) and Avatar: The Last Airbender from Nickelodeon.
Tomb Raider Reloaded was announced in November 2020 and promised to be released in 2021. This release window is slowly closing and it is possible that the pandemic has slowed down development. Still, this Lara Croft mobile game is well and truly in production. However, it is highly likely that the title will reach the Playstore and Appstore in 2022.
Tomb Raider Reloaded is in the arcade and action genre for nostalgic gamers. Moreover, it is a tribute to the Tomb Raider trilogy from which some elements will be taken. I'll let you watch this mini teaser of a mobile Lara Croft which reveals cartoon graphics very different from the original style of the license.
Tomb Raider Reloaded is being developed in partnership with Crystal Dynamics. On the other hand, as far as the Avatar mobile game is concerned, things are also well underway between Navigator Games and Square Enix London.
It is an incredible privilege to work hand in hand with Square Enix London Mobile to create a game from such an iconic license. The world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has so many layers and complex storylines to explore... We look forward to unveiling and sharing with all the passionate and loyal Avatar fans in the near future.
Will Moore, CEO of Navigator Games

I imagine Tomb Raider Reloaded will require less narrative complexity and be more of a pocket adventure.
In any case, one can only notice how much Square Enix cares about its licences. If Final Fantasy or Tomb Raider are now legendary, it doesn't mean that they belong to the past. It is worth noting that the FF and Mana games have jumped on the mobile bandwagon. Unfortunately, this has generally been done at a rather exorbitant price of 10 to 20 euros per game. We all know that mobile is above all a money-making machine for the big studios. But telling us this to our face is a bit brutal. We'll have to wait and see what happens to Tomb Raider Reloaded or Avatar Mobile...
In the meantime, check out our list of mobile action games.
