Warcraft mobile has been teased for a long time, but it didn't reveal its cards until Blizzard's official presentation last night. Let's take a look at everything we know about Warcraft Arclight Rumble, the first Warcraft game to hit mobile. Here you'll find all the game mechanics, release date info, and even how to pre-register for Warcraft Arclight Rumble.
Warcraft Arclight Rumble is the official name of the Warcraft mobile game
There were rumours of two Warcraft mobile games, one of which would be Pokémon GO-like (which Warcraft Arclight Rumble is not). However, some industry insiders seemed to claim that the augmented reality title would be cancelled in Q1 2022.
So that was one game still in the running for Blizzard, which the company decided to unveil on Tuesday at 7pm with a short video. Without being unbelievable, a little hype existed around this mobile Warcraft, since the internal feedback on the gameplay seemed positive. It was time to deliver this experience to the general public so that they could finally judge for themselves!
Here is the official presentation with all the info on Warcraft Arclight Rumble. Mixing face-cam editing, trailer Cinematic, gameplay trailer and teasing, this video requires a bit of analysis to retain everything. So we'll do it for you!
Story and gameplay revealed, what to expect
Graphically very close to the Clash universe and other games with a colourful cartoon atmosphere, is this new Warcraft game faithful to the lore and spirit of the licence? At least it tries to adapt to the mobile format without completely distorting what fans already enjoy.
Arclight energy takes its toll
In terms of narrative, Warcraft Arclight Rumble has a fairly straightforward story. Underneath the inns of Azeroth, a network of machines using gnome technology and Arclight energy seems to have created heroes and villains ready for battle. It's not clear if these machines have been around forever or if they've only just been installed, but their impact is seen across all regions.
Gameplay Warcraft Arclight Rumble : the Tower Offense
Beyond the scenario, we also discovered the gameplay of Warcraft Arclight Rumble (at 3:50 of the full presentation video). The title is strongly inspired by the Tower Defense genre, but is positioned more like a Tower Offense with objectives to besiege and... chaos. On the ground, things look pretty standard. You have to spend gold to place units and strategically choose which creatures or heroes to place according to the objective to be reached and the type of enemy to face.
In Warcraft Arclight Rumble, you have a base to defend in addition to the missions to complete during your game, and if it is destroyed, you lose.
Game maps and special items
Warcraft Arclight Rumble's maps will feature iconic locations in Azeroth, but will also reveal new destinations. There are said to be 70 of them to begin with. In addition to offering different paths for your games, the maps have different elements to capture:
Stones allow you to play units away from your base, i.e. further out on the field.
The Towers to take shoot for you. They are the perfect opportunity to assault the boss directly without worrying about other creatures.
Special items in Warcraft Arclight Rumble are scattered throughout the map. Among them, Gold Deposits and Treasure Chests offer resources to summon more creatures or cast more spells on your enemies. Don't let them fall into the hands of your opponents unless you have planned your strategy well!
As you can see in the video presentation, the maps have very varied bosses (dinosaur queen, aggressive troll, bomber ship, ...) and your strategies will have to adapt to them. But that's not all, since the construction of the levels will also be important, especially with the height of the terrain between the position of your units and that of your opponent.
Available units
Miniatures, or "minis", are the units in Blizzard's game, as in Clash Mini. Based on the Azeroth lore, the units of Warcraft Arclight Rumble are divided into 5 main families:
Horde that focuses on a high level of aggression and reinforced attacks;
Analliance whose defences and spell-casting skills are well proven;
Blackrock to break through opposing defences;
The undead multiplying units on the field with all their skeletons at their disposal;
Beast, a family of devastating units that come from the plains and deep jungles of Azeroth to wreak havoc on the battlefield.
A total of 65 minis are already planned for launch. However, your play style will be primarily guided by your choice of heroes to lead your Warcraft Arclight Rumble minis into battle. Each of these heroes has a unique ability, and can boost damage or reduce the cost of certain units, for example. Some are very well known, like Jaina Proudmoore. Others will have to forge their legend on mobile.
Conclusion on gameplay and game modes
Overall, Warcraft Arclight Rumble is presented as an energetic mobile strategy game. It features a gacha system and multiple game modes, including single player, co-op and PvP. In addition, a large PvE campaign will be available at launch to allow you to test your heroes and villains in real life. According to the teaser at the end of the video, we'll learn more about Warcraft Arclight Rumble dungeons and raids soon, probably in a future video. Hopefully it won't be as awkward as the first one though.
Warcraft Arclight Rumble release date and how to pre-register
With all this, if you're interested in the game, it's time to pre-register for Warcraft Arclight Rumble on mobile. Let's take a quick look at how you can avoid missing out on the launch.
The official announcement declared pre-registration open on the Blizzard website. From there, you have the choice of using your regular Battle.net account or going directly to the Playstore.
However, iOS players will have to wait as pre-registration is not yet available on Apple devices. We don't know the exact release date of Warcraft Arclight Rumble, but we'll let you know as soon as it's announced!
So there you have it, you know all about Warcraft Arclight Rumble, its gameplay, maps, units and upcoming release. Don't forget to pre-register if you're interested in the game, otherwise you can always continue to spit on Blizzard's shoddy game launch practices to wait for the big day.
Yaya
Yaya would never have spent a single cent on a mobile game. At least, that's what the legend says.
