We can't thank Jason Schreier enough for his good information and insights into the video games industry. In his latest book,'Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment', the Bloomberg journalist interviewed over 300 current and former Blizzard employees, and revelations were made about Overwatch on mobile, which is said to be well and truly in development.
The last news of Overwatch on mobile dates back to 2022, when a job advert mentioning the game was published by Blizzard. Since then, nothing has happened, and fans of the game have given up hope. Which is understandable, especially given Blizzard's treatment of the licence. Several Overwatch projects had fallen through, including a Netflix series adaptation (according to Schreier) and the abandonment of Overwatch 2's single-player campaign.

But that was before the journalist revealed that Overwatch Mobile could well be coming to Android and iOS. It seems that Blizzard still wants to bring its hero shooter to other platforms, under the leadership of Walter Kong, one of the people in charge of the licence.

However, it's impossible to say whether Overwatch on mobile will be a port of the PC game or a sequel. Nor is there any guarantee that the project won't suffer the same tragic fate as other Blizzard projects before it (if Supercell's Supergraveyard is anything to go by, Blizzard's graveyard exists too).
We could extrapolate that Blizzard hopes Overwatch Mobile will be as successful as CoD Mobile. In 2022, the Call of Duty mobile port generated almost as much money as all the Call of Duty and Warzone games put together, which is saying something. In fact, the mobile version was arguably the most popular of them all.
Whatever the case, we can now be sure that Overwatch on mobile is well and truly in development at Blizzard. But even Jason Schreier can't predict the future, and there's no guarantee that the game will hit the stores... Stay tuned!
