August 2024 is definitely not all good news in the world of mobile games. After announcing the closure of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened this week, Square Enix this afternoon announced the Final Fantasy Brave Exvius shutdown, a game in the Final Fantasy licence that is nevertheless very popular with fans. You only have a few weeks left to enjoy it...
The news came down today: after 8 years of loyal service and a solid fanbase, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius will be closing its doors worldwide, except in Japan where the game will remain in service. At least, that's what Square Enix has announced via the game's social networks:
Although the game is still available on the Play Store and App Store, it will no longer be possible to purchase Lapis and packs from now on, although players will still be able to use them until Final Fantasy Brave Exvius shutdown. Similarly, the in-game events scheduled will continue until 30 October, when the game will be removed from the stores.
According to Square Enix, the Final Fantasy Brave Exvius shutdown is due to the impossibility of preserving the quality of the game and continuing to offer players an optimal experience:
Since FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS's launch on June 30, 2016, we've strived to provide an incredible and enjoyable gaming experience for our players every day that could exceed the day before. However, we've come to the conclusion that it would be difficult to continue maintaining the app experience, and to therefore end the app service.
The Final Fantasy Brave Exvius shutdown comes just a few weeks after 80 people were made redundant at the Gumi studio, the game's developer (who spoke at the time of "voluntary resignations"...). This decision was justified by a loss of 5 billion Yen, or 32.4 million dollars, caused by the failure of the game Aster Tatariqus.

Be that as it may, it's always sad to see the closure of a game with such a respectable lifespan and such a committed community. If you're one of them, we hope you'll be able to get the most out of FF: Brave Exvius before it closes (and that you haven't spent too much money on it, because obviously you won't get your money back. ..).
