8 candidates were eligible to win the world title this weekend. Summoners War8 top players who won their place in the world finals after a long qualification process, consisting of preliminary phases and regional cups. But there is only one place on the throne and at the end of the tournament it was Hong Kong's MR CHUNG who won the SWC 2020. He came with the most extravagant haircut of the competition, but above all he brings home the World Cup.
Beyond the beautiful game, we could also appreciate the quality of the production. There were many nods to the community and fans had the opportunity to participate remotely in the tournament by sending several cheers to their favourite champions. The casters were on top of their game to bring viewers right into the heart of the competition, even though there was no audience at all due to the coronavirus. We also enjoyed the well-dosed trash-talk of the players which added to the hype of the event.
MR CHUNG went on to win the SWC 2020
It doesn't get much simpler than the final draw of the SWC 2020. There were no seeds and no regional restrictions in the draw. In a knockout draw, no one was protected from anyone and every misstep was penalized by an exit from the tournament. There was no time to relax either, as the quarter-finals, semi-finals and grand final were all played on the same day.
In this context, it was MR CHUNG who was crowned grand champion of the SWC 2020. Uncompromising in the quarter-finals against our French representative ROSITH (2-0), he then beat the Korean Charmi without mercy (3-0). Fortunately for the show, the final was more disputed (3-2). The Taiwanese Gaia sold his skin dearly and did not lose out.
Disappointment for the Americans and the EAST
ROSITH was quickly knocked out of the tournament, but he shouldn't have too many regrets about falling to the eventual champion. To find the real disappointments, you have to cross the Atlantic Ocean. North America was indeed privileged to have two representatives. But JMAK and the fantastic TROKAMOO , who had disguised himself for the occasion, were eliminated in their first match. Express eliminations concluded with two clear scores of 0-2.
Finally, China's L'EST, was putting its crown back on the line after winning the 2019 edition. They too bit the dust quickly as they were eliminated by Charmi (1-2). Just goes to show, you can't win every time 😉
