The star of the first Community Day of the year with his form shiny now available, Spheal is a lovely Pokémon . What's more, he hasreal potential once he's evolved into Walrein in Pokémon GO. Here's our guide to harnessing all of his fearsome abilities in battle.
Spheal, Sealeo and Walrein in Pokémon GO
Although he's very cute in his basic stage, as is often the case in Pokémon GO, you'll need to evolve Walrein for him to develop his full power. Hopefully you've filled up on Nanana Berries during the community day, you'll need a total of 25 Spheal candies to evolve him to Sealeo and then another 100 Spheal candies to reach his final stage of Walrein.

Walrein is a tank that has very good stats but suffers from a double Water / Ice type that makes it weak against Rock, Plant, Electrik and Combat types. This is particularly detrimental since these types are unfortunately very present in PVP. In order to stand out from the crowd, you'll have to take into account its very good movepool, which has just been enriched during the Community Day in January 2022.
The exclusive Community Day attacks
If you had the good initiative to upgrade your Sealeo during the community day Spheal, it will have automatically learned the two new exclusive attacks. The two new attacks make this Pokémon very strong in the current meta. However, for those who did not have the chance to participate in the event, all you have to do is use a Charged or Immediate EliteAttack TC.
The Immediate Attack: Powder Snow
Although the Cascade attack provides more coverage, the new Powder Snow attack is a major advantage for Walrein, who will be able to attack much faster while charging more energy per second.
The Charged Attack : Icicle Spear
The all-new Icicle Spear attack is one of the best Ice attacks in Pokémon GO. Currently reserved for a select few, Walrein is proving to be an excellent user of this attack, dealing 60 damage for only 35 energy. Couple this with his best immediate attack, Powder Snow, and your Walrein will be able to use his Charged attack quite often and still do a lot of damage, especially if you can manageyour opponent's Pokémon type.
Guide to Walrein Pokémon GO in PvP battles
Walrein is a very good Pokémon who can cope well with most of the raids that are about to change. However, this is not the kind of situation that will allow him to shine. Indeed, you may prefer him to Pokémon of the more gruff Ice type like Kyurem, Regice, Articuno, Lapras or Mamoswine. However, he can be very useful as a replacement in Dragon / Flight type Legendary raids like Rayquaza. Finally, it is in PVP that Walrein now stands out as an element to have in your team.
The particularity of Walrein which makes it very powerful in PVP is its efficiency in each of the three leagues of Pokémon GO. Indeed, its balanced stats allow it to adapt to each time in a particular way.
As for the best attacks for Walrein, we recommend the following set of attacks for the 3 leagues:
Walrein
Powder Snow
Earthquake
Icicle Spear
Walrein in the Super League
In this league, Walrein should be placed first in your team in order to hit fast and hard and above all to charge as much as possible with his attacks. Once this is done, remove him from the fight. All you have to do is wait until the best moment to send him back on the field and take advantage of his maximum power. Guaranteed effect!

Walrein in the Hyper league
In the Hyper League, it's all about timing and who can exploit the potential of your Walrein in Pokémon GO. Learn to send it at the right time and you won't be disappointed. It's not an easy Pokémon to play in this league, but it can ensure you win if you wait.

Walrein in the Master league
In the big league, Walrein plays the role of a meta breaker. Consequently, it will be placed where other Pokémon such as Articuno or Kyurem are expected to be; currently more widespread alternatives whose weaknesses Walrein does not inherit. Its potential lies in the fact that it is one of the only Pokémon Ice to not fear Fire thanks to its second Water type. Walrein remains an excellent counter to Pokémon Fire and Dragon. As in the Hyper league, you will need some training. Fortunately, your training will really pay off thanks to the dual type and the special attacks.

With two new attacks, Walrein in Pokémon GO is one of the best Pokémon Ice. It is an excellent option for your PVP team. If you were lucky enough to get one with good stats, then don' t hesitate to invest in it. On the other hand, it can easily be overtaken by other Pokémon like Lapras or Froslass if they also have the Community Day attacks.
