Stardew Valley is a great cozy game filled with a ton of things to do. Alongside the basics like farming, mining, and crafting, there are also many special events which spice up the game. One of these is the A Train is Passing Through Stardew Valley which, while often confusing new players, is actually incredibly useful.
Unlocking the A Train is Passing Through Stardew Valley event is actually very simple. In fact, it doesn't require you to do anything but wait. To have the event appear all you need to do is have access to the Railroad, north of the mountain.
This area starts blocked off by a large boulder, however, the game clears it for you! All you need to do is wait until the third day of the first summer and an earthquake will happen - this will clear the boulder out of the way and allow you to access the Railroad. Feel free to head over there and explore what the area has to offer, you may even find some hidden treasures!
Now that you have access, all you need to do is wait. There is a random chance that the train will appear on any day between 9AM to 6PM, but only if you're outside at the time. When this is happening you will get a "A Train is Passing Through Stardew Valley" notification, followed by a train whistle. This means that the train is on the way and you should head to the Railroad.
Now that we know how to get the event to appear, we have to talk about what exactly it does. As you might expect, the event makes a train pass through Stardew Valley. It speeds along the track at the Railroad and quickly continues on.
At first glance, it may seem like nothing special, however, the train also drops items along the tracks as it passes. This can include Coal, Geodes, Stone, Wood, Iron Ore, and Leprechaun Shoes! Once the train passes, you can follow along the track and pick these up - there's a good amount of loot.
Side note: don't attempt to stand in front of the train or hit it with weapons, you'll just take damage - the train stops for nothing!
That's all there is to this event. A Train is Passing Through Stardew Valley is just a fun little way to get some extra loot every now and then. Remember it happens randomly so you can't really force it, just keep an eye on your notifications and head over to the Railroad when you see it pop up!
