Sega launches Sonic Speed Simulator on Roblox

Entitled Sonic Speed Simulator, the Sonic Roblox game made by Sega is making its debut. Initially available as a paid closed beta, Roblox's fastest game is now available in free-to-play.

Sonic comes back into fashion

Despite the criticism of the first Sonic design of the film adaptation, it is clear that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was a success. In total, it made over $300 million on a budget of $85 million.

To coincide with the release of the second installment, which by the way has already grossed over $230 million at the global box office, Sega has partnered with Gamefam to launch a Sonic game in Roblox.

Far from Sonic Dash or Sonic Forces, Sonic Speed Simulator is a 3D open-world racing game that puts you in the shoes of our favourite blue hedgehog.

You will find in this game everything that makes the charm of the Sonic license: the speed of movement, the rings to recover, the springboards, the springs and the loops.

As for the environments, you won't feel out of place if you've already played the first Sonic games. 4 great cult environments of the licence have been modelled:

• Green Hill, with its green plains;
• Lost Valley, the desert of all dangers ;
• Emerald Hill, which is very similar to Green Hill, but requires a lot more technical skills to progress;
• Snow Valley, and its winter atmosphere. Be careful not to slip on the snow and ice of this winding level.

But beyond the single-player levels inspired by the early Sonic games, recreated beautifully in Roblox, you can also play as the supersonic hedgehog against other opponents.

Multiplayer races will allow you to unlock rewards. For example, you can unlock pets that will improve your Sonic character's stats.

The only downside is the absence of a boss battle against Dr. Robotnik. Let's hope that this oversight will be remedied in future updates.

This partnership with Sega proves once again the importance of Roblox as a creative platform. At the dawn of the metaverse era, could Roblox be a competitor to Facebook and Epic Games?
