Ranked LoL: Wild Rift | Ranking system explained

Ranked Wild Rift Guide

Fans of League of Legends must be looking forward to the World Championships in Shanghai. But mobile players also have the phone version of the game in the back of their minds: League of Legends: Wild Rift. Unfortunately, Europeans have not yet had the chance to test the Wild Rift beta, which is only available in certain regions of the world. However, Riot Games continues to keep the community informed of its future projects. The latest one is of particular interest to players: the Ranked Wild Rift.

It's no secret that all League of Legends players are tryharders at heart. The game is especially known for its highly organised soloQ ladder. The ladder is the focus of much discussion and passion. The downside is that it also encourages toxic behaviour. Well aware of this central issue, Riot Games has provided a specific ranking system. League of Legends: Wild Rift will be largely based on the PC version, but there are several differences to accommodate the mobile audience.

Ranked Wild Rift levels

Like League of Legends, Wild Rift will have a Ranked system with tiers. In ascending order: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Master, Grand Master and Challenger. Keen observers will notice that a new league has been implemented on occasion, the Emerald League. There is no particular reason for this, other than to provide a more precise division for matchmaking. Everyone has their own goals, but we advise you to at least get out of bronze to avoid memes on the networks 😉

Each tier will consist of a number of divisions (I to IV). You will need to accumulate ranking marks to move up in division and tier. Obviously, a defeat means the loss of a mark. The Ranked Wild Rift system will therefore be a bit simpler, at low elo. Because from the diamond level onwards, marks are replaced by League Points (LP). These same LPs, borrowed from the PC version, which make the most frustrated players rage so much.
In any case, the developers have expressed the will to keep a similar ranking system. They want competitive play at all levels and want to reward player progression. League of Legends has a proven track record of over 10 years of existence and Wild Rift is right to embrace its legacy.

Protection and unique ranked file, the specificities of Ranked Wild Rift

So far, the Ranked Wild Rift system remains close to the PC game. However, there are two special features introduced in Wild Rift.

  • Protection against defeats: A Courage Gauge fills up during your games. It rewards good deeds and can protect you against future defeats and brand losses. Please note that it only works for levels below Diamond.
  • A single ranked queue: Older players will remember the multiple ranked queues that have existed in League of Legends. SoloQ/DuoQ, DynamiQ, FlexQ, Ranked Team... Wild Rift will have a much simpler ranking system: a single ranked queue. You can play alone, with 2, 3 or 5 players.

The beautiful game rewarded!

The developers of the game explained that with these two specificities, Riot Games wanted to offer a better experience to players. It is aware that mobile gamers have their own demands and needs and also knows that its audience is likely to be younger. The company therefore wants a simple ranking system, to play with friends. Defeat protection is also an interesting first step to fight against toxic players... Although more is needed!

What are the drafting procedures for classified parts?

How does a draft phase in Ranked Wild Rift work in practice? There are several major differences from League of Legends PC. Hold on to your seatbelts, because everything goes faster!

Draft in Ranked Wild Rift
Quick drafts.
  • Access to ranked games: these are available from the start of the game. No need to practice with normal games or against bots. It's up to you to get started, at your own risk. The developers consider this to be the most consistent way to have a ranking that reflects your level.
  • The choice of position : to avoid long waits, Wild Rift proposes to "create teams with a choice of positions as varied as possible". This means that, before playing, you can fill in one or more roles (Top, Jungle, Mid, ADC, Support).
  • No ban: In League of Legends, with over 150 champions available, teams have the option of banning 5 champions each. This is a way to avoid counter-picks or characters that are too powerful. But on Wild Rift, there will be no ban in Ranked. There are fewer champions available at the moment, so bans don't seem necessary. The bad news is that you will be able to meet Yi Masters in every game... Good luck 😅 !

With this guide summarising all the information known to date about the Wild Rift ranked system, you should be ready for battle. From our side, we wish you the best of luck in your future ranked games, you'll need it to survive the trolls and AFKs !

Don't forget to pre-register to be informed as soon as it is officially released!
