NetEase announces Destiny: Rising on mobile and an alpha for November 2024

NetEase announces Destiny: Rising on mobile

NetEase has confirmed the rumours circulating around a mobile game based on Bungie's famous licence. We now know that Destiny: Rising on mobile will be a free-to-play RPG shooter available on Android and iOS, set in the world of Destiny. The icing on the cake is that a closed alpha is coming very soon, in just a few weeks' time.

NetEase given carte blanche to develop Destiny: Rising on mobile

Let's go back a few years, to 2018, when NetEase injected $100 million into Bungie's company. Thanks in part to this partnership, the Chinese publisher was given carte blanche to adapt Bungie's licence for mobile.

"We want to capture and depict a specific era where the reins are in the hands of the players to live, explore and define".

The American company is said to have confined itself to the lore and narrative of Destiny: Rising on mobile, which will take place in an alternative timeline to that of Destiny 1 and 2. You'll be able to explore the post-Dark Age era, before the emergence of the Guardians and the Tower.

So, what is Destiny: Rising on mobile? Well, unsurprisingly, it's a competitive multiplayer RPG shooter that you can play solo or in co-op with friends, as well as in first or third person. If you've already played Destiny, you won't be lost, as you'll find the same single-player campaign and the iconic 6-player co-op, as well as new modes specific to the mobile version.

Destiny: Rising third-person gameplay on mobile

But unlike the first PC and console releases, forget about character creation. In Destiny: Rising, you'll have to choose a hero from three different classes (Hunter, Warlock or Titan). Of course, you'll find the most iconic characters like Ikora Rey, as well as new heroes with unique abilities.

Closed alpha scheduled for 1 November 2024 for Destiny: Rising on mobile

In addition to the announcement of Destiny: Rising on mobile, NetEase has also revealed the date of the next closed alpha on Android and iOS, available only in the USA and Canada. Scheduled for November 1, 2024, this alpha will focus on the main PvE campaign, as well as the various PvP game modes on a single map.

Shooting gameplay in Destiny: Rising on mobile

It probably won't be possible to get an idea of Destiny: Rising's business model on mobile during this alpha, but the question does arise. Should we expect aggressive microtransactions or a gacha mechanic ? We'll have to wait a little longer to find out. What's more, the release date for Destiny: Rising has still not been announced! Don't hesitate to visit the game's official website to find out more!
