Apex Legends was released in February 2019 on PC, Xbox and Playstation. If a version on Switch should arrive soon, it is rumoured that the game could soon have its mobile version! The mobile sector would indeed be a good way to give the game a second wind. Especially since Battle Royale is still very much in vogue. PUBG and its E-sport competitions are very dynamic, while Fortnite with its new season is still very active.
Apex Legends mobile : an assumed objective
Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, revealed in an interview thatApex Legends Mobile was a serious goal. He envisages an early release, possibly in beta, by the end of 2020. While such a project has been mentioned before, this is the first time the company has mentioned a deadline.
With over 70 million players claimed, Apex Legends is still lagging behind Fortnite, the number one competitor. The latter boasts over 350,000 million players, which is a huge gap. The difference is partly due to the mobile version of Fortnite which is doing well. But it is certain that by opening up to a new market and a new audience, Eletronic Arts' Battle Royale could narrow the gap a little. We know that China, Korea and India are particularly fond of phone games.
What to expect at Apex Legends mobile ?
If the game is coming to mobile, the community is entitled to have specific requirements. Especially since, as mentioned above, the game is not in a strong position against the competition.
120 Hz quality. Fortnite has recently put the emphasis on FPS and Apex Legends mobile needs to offer quality graphics and smooth gameplay. Gamers don't want a low-end version of the PC game.
A smaller map. Kings Canyon is a map full of depth. Adapted for PC, it will probably need a smaller map on mobile to avoid long gameplay.
A single player mode. The audience for mobile games is not the same as on PC. A real single player mode (and not necessarily a squad mode) would be a good idea to get a game going quickly.
An offline mode. There is not always a network, especially in transport. Thinking about an offline mode (training or campaign) would be a real plus.
Anyway, we're following it closely! We'll tell you all about it as soon as the official release is announced!
