Gossip Harbor review: your daily dose of story... and microtransactions!

More info

You've probably already got your hands on some match-3 games, which are very popular with gamers. But have you ever tried Gossip Harbor? If you like stories full of mysteries and secrets to discover, the game is well worth a look. But in this Gossip Harbor review, I warn you about its predatory business model, because if you run out of free energy in Gossip Harbor, you're going to have to wait... or pay!

Gossip Harbor review: your daily dose of story... and microtransactions!

Positive points

  • A story full of intrigue and mystery to discover
  • Endearing characters
  • Gameplay that's easy to pick up

Negative points

  • The aggressive economic system
  • A clone of other merge games

During my Gossip Harbor game review, I noticed that the game knows how to tell stories, and especially gossips! You play as Quinn Castillo and her daughter Olivia, who have to renovate a restaurant, the classic pitch of many match-3 games. But here you're treated to a healthy dose of story arcs about the various characters in Gossip Harbor (and there are a lot of them!). What's more, the game has no ending, and it's easy to see why!

The story unfolds as you solve the puzzles, just like in a classic match-3 game. Merge several items to obtain stronger ones, which will allow you to complete your quests, and so on. Except that to do this, you'll need energy in Gossip Harbor. Your energy gauge runs out after 5 to 10 minutes, in which case you have three options: wait several hours for the gauge to refill, find free energy links or... pay real money! Worse still, from level 5 onwards, it will be almost impossible to progress without investing in gems.

Microtransactions are legion in Gossip Harbor, and everything has been designed to force you to spend money. For this reason, I can only advise you to look at other, less predatory merges-3, because Gossip Harbor is there first and foremost to drain your wallet.

If you're craving good stories, why not take out a Netflix subscription?
