After the release of Age of Empires mobile as Return of Empire in China in March 2022 under the direction of Tencent and TiMi Studios, Microsoft decides to turn to the international market for AoE. So you will be able to discover a real mobile Age of Empires on your phone in the coming months. Let's take a look at the information about AoE mobile that has been revealed so far.
Everything we know about AoE Mobile
Announced with a few seconds teaser, Age of Empires mobile reveals very little. The image shows a castle overlooking a medieval village and a dirt road with galloping knights.
Like Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor, the Chinese MOBA and its international version that complement each other, it could be thatAoE mobile is a global adaptation of the Chinese version on phone. In this case, the gameplay will be centered around cities to control to earn points and different battlegrounds on which you can advance one of six factions by choosing which one to belong to.
Almost 10 years ago, Microsoft was already publicly discussing its plans to bring some of its major licenses (IPs) to phones. Considering what the mobile market has become, maybe they should have hurried to release Age of Empires on a decent mobile given the constant interest of gamers for this timeless license.
They did release Age of Empires: Castle Siege on Windows Phone and then AoE: World Domination which never finished its soft launch. Microsoft Games' choices were more towards a mix between RTS and Clash of Clans or lite strategy than towards a complex gameplay like the original PC game.
With the release of Age IV in 2021, a new era for the license has begun.
Then, in March 2022, AoE on phone made its debut in Asia without any access for the rest of the world. A mix of Rise of Kingdoms and the classic mechanics of Microsoft's title, Return to Empire is still available for pre-registration outside of China on its official website.
Age of Empires Mobile Release Date
Without an exact release date, Age of Empires Mobile has been announced as "coming soon" in the description of the official teaser video. So we can guess that we won't have to wait more than a few months before discovering a full gameplay trailer and then getting our hands on the game.
But until we have more information about the game, don't get caught up in the hype since it will surely be a free-to-play game and a simple choice of business model could deeply unbalance the mobile AoE experience. So, if you are a fan of the license, don't get impatient and take a few hours to test other mobile strategy games!
Yaya
Yaya would never have spent a single cent on a mobile game. At least, that's what the legend says.
