An AR, or augmented reality, mobile game uses this technology to superimpose images, sounds or information on the player's real environment. Don't confuse augmented reality with virtual reality, as the latter allows players to immerse themselves in an environment that is completely different from reality.
The most popular AR game on Android and iOS is obviously Pokémon GO, but there are others, such as Pikmin Bloom.
How does a AR mobile game work?
Augmented reality uses the smartphone's camera and GPS to be able to project elements of the game onto the environment, and sometimes onto real locations. As a result, AR games on Android and iOS offer a fairly high level of immersion and a 100% interactive experience.
Of course, players who want to try out AR need to be able to move around easily, since the whole point of the game is to interact with the world around them. And if you fancy something a bit more conventional, check out our other mobile games categories!
