Kingdom Rush review: Our opinion about this mobile game

More info

Kingdom Rush is a tower defence game set in a medieval-fantasy world. In this game, developed by Ironhide Game Studio, you have to face down hordes of attackers. The aim is simple: defend your kingdom by strategically positioning your defences. We take a closer look at the game in this review.

Tower defence like any other?

The recipe for tower defence is simple: a passageway, enemies, more enemies and defensive towers. However, to be gripping and keep the player until the end, the game needs to arouse interest. This type of game may look simple on paper, but it's the hardest to pull off when it comes to attracting an audience. However, Kingdom Rush's medieval-fantasy concept seems to hit the nail on the head.

How does it play?

Generally speaking, tower-defence offers limited interaction between the player and the game itself. The game must stand out for its towers and the upgrades that will be available to increase your defensive capacity.

There are several types of tower available. You'll have the right to a barracks, allowing you to automatically recruit warriors capable of stopping enemies. You'll also have archery, mage and artillery towers. In short, you'll have plenty of upgrades to choose from. What's more, everything here is simplified, which is a good thing for non-English speakers. The game does not require a high level of understanding and will be accessible to all. Strategy is the name of the game here, so position your defences wisely and no enemy will get past your defences. What's more, Kingdom Rus lets you recruit heroes (free of charge or through in-app purchases) to enhance your defensive systems. The game also includes the option of using powers to make an impact during the "horde assault" phase. These powers help to make up for the boredom that can occur during the assault phase.

Kingdom Rush universe and graphics

The 2D graphics give the game a very clean look. What's more, there are plenty of environments and levels to choose from. The bestiary will give you a variety of enemies to face. The overhead view of the classic game gives a pleasing visual effect. The cartoony graphics give the game a wild look, with the rest of the universe a little crazy.

My verdict

If you like the tower-defence genre, you're in for a real treat. There are plenty of levels, as well as replayability based on progressive difficulty and an infinite mode. All in all, you'll have a great time with this game.
